Patron Saint of the CCFNEI: St. Katherine Drexel
A few years ago Bishop Rhodes named St. Katherine Drexel the Patron Saint of our Catholic Community Foundation. St. Katherine Drexel is a true example of Stewardship. The 2nd American-born canonized saint, was born into great wealth in Philadelphia in 1858. Soon after her birth, her mother passed away and she was then raised by her father and step-mother who were firm believers in philanthropy, especially tending to the needs of the poor. Leading by example, as a young women, St. Katherine Drexel became aware of the difficult circumstances that were facing Native Americans and African Americans of that time. She used her inherited fortune to serve these groups. She funded many institutions, including schools. St. Katherine Drexel died in 1955, and was beatified by Pope Saint John Paul II in 1988 and canonized in 2000. Her feast day is March 3rd. St. Katherine Drexel, pray for us!
