“Bishop Rhoades saw the need for long-term support for our seminarian’s education,” said Aaron Kennerk, Business Manager at the Catholic Community Foundation of Northeast Indiana (CCFNEI). This insight ignited the start of the Blessed John Paul II Fund for Seminarian Education endowment.
What started in this very diocese by University of Notre Dame Professor Janet Smith, has blossomed into the largest pregnancy center in the country. With 33 centers in 12 states (16 centers in Indiana alone), serving over 30,000 women a year. And right here in northern Indiana, every other baby born starts with Women’s Care Center.
A Lasting LegacyDr. Mike Mastrangelo and his wife, Grace, have been providing scholarships for Dwenger students since 1993. Over 30 students have received a scholarship for each of the four years they attended Bishop Dwenger High School. Their generosity to scholarships was also equaled by their support of Saints Alive!, capital improvement projects, and extensive volunteer work.

St. Joseph Missions Women’s Shelter (SJMWS) is a newly refurbished home located on Lake Avenue in Fort Wayne, Indiana. On the outside, one would see a large, blue two-story house nestled unexpectedly in the middle of a commercial area of the city—but inside, wonderful things are happening!

Once again, the Catholic Community Foundation of Northeast Indiana sponsored the #iGIVECATHOLIC Day of Giving platform for those parishes, churches and ministries that chose to participate within the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend. This year’s Day of Giving was held on Tuesday, November 30th, with early giving beginning on November 15th.
